The Academy for Careers in Education (ACE) is a partnership academy operated with the assistance of a grant from the California Department of Education. The goal is to promote an avenue for students who are interested in the field of education. This four-year program provides cohort classes that will prepare students to become exceptional educators with a mastery of the most modern educational media, tools and applications. Students will engage with mentors, college trips, internships with Moffit Elementary, volunteer work, mock interviews, financial literacy and educational field trips to assist them in learning the variety of career opportunities within the educational field.

Vision Statement
The Academy for Careers in Education (ACE) is to promote an avenue for students who are interested in the field of Education. Classes prepare students in a course of three years to become exceptional educators with a mastery of the most modern educational media, tools and applications.
Goals Course offerings include classes in Cross Age Play Production, Child Development, Educational Psychology, and Topics in Education. Our aim is to have technology drive the curriculum being taught in each course, and provide scaffolding from grade to grade, while assisting students in creating a post-secondary path upon graduation from John Glenn High School. For example: In the 9th grade Cross Age Play Production, students learn public speaking skills within an education setting. Working with 3rd grader stories from our partner elementary. Students will rewrite, direct, and perform stories into a play. The Six California Teaching Standards will be introduced to students as they engage with their 3rd grade counterparts. In addition to being familiarized with Language Arts Standards at the 3rd grade level. In the 10th grade Educational Psychology course, students will learn focuses on the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth and development of children. Emphasis is placed on helping students acquire knowledge and skills essential to the care and guidance of children. Students learn to create environments that promote optimal development. In the 11th grade Educational Psychology course, students will Educational theories and application: Bloom’s Taxonomy, Metacognition, etc. In addition, they will learn to drive curriculum through word processing, and presentation software. evaluate educational software and learn web reliable research and resources, as well as the legal issues related to technological use. In the 12th grade Topics in Education course students will synthesize and demonstrate their acquired knowledge, by creating full lesson and media presentations for all grade types; Elementary, Middle, and High School. Students will partner with a teacher for mentorship/apprenticeship and actively teach within a classroom with their mentors’ guidance. Within a two to three year time period, we would like to re-establish our pathways and partnership with Cerritos College and make new partnerships with local universities such as, California State University Fullerton and/or California State University Long Beach. In five months, we would like to start tracking students who are graduating from ACE to measure success in their post-secondary endeavors. In doing so, we would like to continue to support and allow former students, who have succeeded in their goals, to return to John Glenn High School to showcase their successes and motivate active academy students.
